The bearings are wrecked, I don’t know how it went this long. It’s Ford 8.8, she said she had the wheel bearings and axle seals replaced a couple weeks ago, that’s the National bearing I took out.

This vehicle came in regarding an inop clutch. Found the shaft the release bearing slides on snapped off the transmission (hence the broken splines). Bushing had been worn completely through so we assume it’s been “making noise” for quite some time.

Found during the MPI, otherwise the vehicle was in good condition.

...we replaced the one pulley, but I guess there was no other damage because everything stayed quiet.

Theory 1: Trans Control Module (TCM) shorted internally... capacitors and or transistors are melted into the plastic. Theory 2: customer installed their own gauge pods and may have cooked something, wires had been shut in the door and wrapped around fuses. Theory 3: the engine harness was fairly chaffed into the radiator fans, thoroughly inspected but couldn’t find actual wiring damage (only loom).

Third link in and I had to stop this week to have a breather. All of the impossible tasks of rust welding I’ve consumed on this site recently had to be leading up this moment.  Stupendous!

I don’t think it rises to the level of drywall screws.

I’m reminded of an NCO I worked with in the Army, Black dude grew up in inner city Detroit. He said they had an 8-horse gas motor that came off some kind of washing machine or something. They mounted it to a mini bike and when the clutch gave out, they bound it together with some nails. Had to push start it then. He said it was really fast.

I once diagnosed (and then replaced) an internally leaking master cylinder because not only had the brake booster filled with fluid, but the bottom of the booster had rusted through, and the vacuum leak through the quart of fluid therein made a comical bubbling sound from the booster with the engine running.
